Վանո Սիրադեղյան

Vano Smbati Siradeghyan. Armenian state, party figure, writer, public speaker. In the first decade of Armenia’s independence, he held key positions in the state of Armenia. In the 1990s, he was one of the leaders of the Armenian National Movement that came to power in Armenia.

Vano Siradeghyan entered the history of Armenia as a controversial character. for some, he was a person who committed various crimes, for others, a brilliant political analyst and the best novelist of Armenia. His name is associated with a number of political murders, persecutions, misappropriation of state funds, abuse of official position. Before his death, he was wanted internationally.

In 1966-1969, Vano Siradeghyan served in the army of the USSR. He graduated from Yerevan State University in 1974. He worked in a number of periodicals. In 1982, he became a prize winner of “Druzhba Narodov” magazine. Since 1988, he has been a member of the newly created Armenian Nationwide Movement (HMH) party. In the same year, he became a member of the “Karabakh Committee”, gradually becoming an active member of Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s team. In December of the same year, he was arrested by the Soviet law enforcement agencies along with a number of members of the committee and imprisoned until May 1989. In 1990-1991, he worked as the head of the Forestry Department of Armenia, almost at the same time, in 1990-1992, he was a deputy of the Supreme Council of Armenia from constituency No. 13. In 1991-1992, he worked as an advisor to the President of Armenia on internal policy and social issues. In 1992-1997 he was the Minister of Internal Affairs of Armenia, in 1997-1998 he was the mayor of Yerevan, almost at the same time, in 1997-1999, he was elected a deputy of the National Assembly of Armenia from constituency No. 13. On May 30, 1999, he was re-elected as a member of the National Assembly of Armenia already from constituency No. 75. He was a member of the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs of the National Assembly of Armenia.

Vano Siradeghyan was a member of the Republican Party of Armenia. In 1990-1992 and 1997-2000 he headed the party department.

The person of Vano Siradeghyan is connected with the organization and execution of many criminal crimes, for which reason the law enforcement bodies of Armenia have announced an international search for him.

According to information provided by Vano Siradeghyan’s family, he died on October 15, 2021.
